Biographical Details :
After studying Theology and Religious Studies at King’s College, London and the University of Nottingham, where he also completed a PGCE and other postgraduate studies before ordination. Ian has served in Anglican parish ministry has also taught Religious Education in both in Church and state sector Schools.
Undertaking research in Islamic Studies at the University of Derby, Ian completed his MA and PhD with a study of Islamic Spirituality in contemporary British Muslim traditions.
Before coming to UCE, Ian lectured in Religious Studies at University College, Chester and the University of Derby.
Research Interests :
Current research interests include radical UK Muslim movements with especial interest in the Al-Muhajiroun group, the European Shi’a diaspora, Sufi devotional groups and practices with a focus upon a Nottingham Mirpuri origin tariqa, and the career/education goals of 16+ Asian Muslim young people.
Member of research project on Religion in the Black Country conducted by the School of Humanities, University of Wolverhampton, September 2002 ongoing.
